Find the palette that best flatters you among the 23 seasons of the International Image Institute in Toronto. Karen Brunger, founder of this school and my mentor, is a pioneer in color analysis and developed the 23-season system, the most precise of all. This system is based primarily on the characteristic of a complexion being more "warm" or "cool," but which can tend toward "neutral" depending on the assessment.

For practical purposes, since the majority of online resources cover all 16 or even only 12 seasons, you will still have your equivalent in these systems to allow you to read about your colours after your session.

Understanding the difference between traditional colorimetry and Korean colorimetry 🪭

Here is the short version of the difference between the two colorimetry systems if you are hesitating between one or the other.

The draping process

Because Cocory's assessment begins with an objective measurement process (using a patented device), color draping is more systematic, allowing for a faster identification of a primary palette and three sub-seasons. In contrast, traditional draping can take longer to determine the perfect season for each color, as it requires visually assessing, after draping multiple colors, whether the skin has "cool" or "warm" undertones (often the most time-consuming part of the assessment). This process yields only one palette.

02

The development of palettes

Western palettes all include colors with multiple tones, saturations, and brightness levels, whereas Cocory palettes are specifically subdivided into brightness and saturation . This is why it's called tonal colorimetry. With Cocory's assessment, you get one primary palette and three secondary palettes (the ones that work with a little makeup, for example); the traditional assessment only gives you one palette.

03

Makeup

Traditional color analysis doesn't include a mechanism for identifying specific makeup colors. However, it does provide a general guide to your best shades. These recommendations are sufficient for the vast majority of people.

Cocory's draping system is more systematic, and it also includes specific makeup palettes (16 different ones) with a systematic draping sequence that helps determine your best palette and the lipsticks that best complement it. This makes the results for each palette much more specific . All you have to do is find the products that exactly match the identified colors, and you're all set.

04

Online popularity

You'll find more online post-color analysis recommendations for your traditional season than for your Korean palette, since Cocory's method is patented. If you're self-taught or enjoy browsing social media for information, this might be your preference! However, if you have a keen eye for detail and would prefer me to do the work for you, Korean color analysis could be a better choice.
